Matt Luke is struggling right now. It’s easy to see.
The Ole Miss interim head coach has dropped three consecutive games after starting his tenure with a pair of wins. In particular, the state of Alabama has not been very kind to him.
Following a 66-3 loss to Alabama in Week 5, Auburn had its turn with Luke’s Rebels in Week 6. The Tigers won 44-23, and the game probably wasn’t even as close as that score may indicate.
To make matters worse, Ole Miss posted a job listing for the football head coach position on the same day his team got blown out on The Plains.
Here’s what Matt Luke said following the loss to Auburn:
“We have to not give up explosive plays, can’t miss tackles, can’t settle for field goals when we get in the red zone. That’s where we are at right now. That’s what we’ve got to do. We’re starting to see some of the young guys grow up. I really thought in the first half it came down to them catching the fade ball, not us. I felt like today the ball went to the right spot a lot, and if that keeps happening over and over again, we are going to make those plays. I am starting to see some young guys grow up, gaining confidence, playing with an edge, not out there playing tentative. You know when you are doing the right thing and being aggressive. That’s where we need to improve.”
