Orlando City Dominates

Sep 08, 2016 -- 5:21am

Kaka scored twice in Orlando City's 4-1 victory over the 10-man Montreal Impact on Wednesday night. Brek Shea and Carlos Rivas also scored for Orlando City (7-7-13). Didier Drogba scored for Montreal (9-8-10). The Impact were reduced to 10 men when goalkeeper Evan Bush was shown a straight red card in the 51st minute after taking down a streaking Rivas in the box. Kaka scored on backup goalkeeper Eric Kronberg on the penalty. Drogba scored from a free kick 1:01 into the match, the second-fastest goal in Montreal's MLS history.

Orlando City Wins

Aug 29, 2016 -- 5:21am

Kaka scored a goal in each half and Orlando City beat New York City FC 2-1 on Sunday night in a matchup of 2015 expansion teams. Kaka gave Orlando City (6-7-13) the lead for good in the 63rd minute when he converted on a penalty he drew after the City defenders brought him down in the area. Orlando City moved a point behind D.C. United for the sixth and final playoff position in the Eastern Conference. Kaka opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when he turned the corner on defender Jefferson Mena to get an open look at the goal. Goalkeeper Josh Saunders saved Kaka's initial attempt but failed to secure it and Kaka scored on the follow. Steven Mendoza tied it for NYCFC (11-8-8) with a right-footed putback in the 55th minute.

OC Falls To Toronto

Aug 25, 2016 -- 5:35am

Jozy Altidore scored in the 86th minute, Sebastian Giovinco had two assists and Toronto FC beat Orlando City 2-1 on Wednesday night. Toronto (12-7-7) won its sixth game during a seven-game unbeaten streak and moved past New York City FC atop the Eastern Conference. Altidore slipped behind the defense and tapped a feed from Giovinco past goalkeeper Joe Bendik near the top of the box before rolling a left-footer into an open net. Tosaint Ricketts broke away down the right flank, ran onto a throw in from Giovinco and slipped a right footer past Bendik, inside the near post in the seventh minute to give Toronto a 1-0 lead. Cyle Larin headed a cross from Kevin Alston off the right post and into the net to tie it in the 56th. Larin has 30 goals in 50 career MLS games. Bendik had five saves, including a pair of diving stops in the second half. Orlando City (5-7-13) is winless in its last four.

Orlando City Draws Colorado

Aug 22, 2016 -- 5:26am

Orlando City held one of the top teams in all of the MLS without a goal as they earn one point in a 0-0 draw against Colorado. The point puts Orlando City in a tie for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with DC United. “For us it was an important game because in the three games since the new coaching staff took over we have allowed six goals and we’ve been harping on our team to be better defensively, but haven’t had the stats to back it up. So tonight to get a shutout on the road was hugely important for us,” Head Coach Jason Kreis said. City faces a short turnaround when it returns to Camping World Stadium on Wednesday, Aug. 24, to host Toronto FC for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff

Florida State will be without presumptive starting quarterback Sean Maguire when the season begins. Maguire showed up at FSU’s practice Saturday with a boot on his right foot, and Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher told reporters following practice that Maguire, a fifth-year senior, needs surgery. Fisher said Maguire won’t be available to return to action until the second or third week of the season at least. He’ll have a screw inserted into the foot in the coming days, Fisher said, and is unlikely to be ready for the season opener against Ole Miss in Orlando on Monday, Sept. 5.

Stanton Injured

Aug 15, 2016 -- 5:28am

The Miami Marlins are in the market for a power hitter to replace injured slugger Giancarlo Stanton, and they're discussing whether to reach out to Rodriguez, president of baseball operations Michael Hill said Sunday. Stanton strained his groin Saturday and is expected to be sidelined at least six weeks, meaning it's likely he'll miss the rest of the regular season. Rodriguez, who grew up in South Florida and still lives here, played his final game for the New York Yankees on Friday. Hill said the Marlins will "look at everything" but don't know how eager Rodriguez might be to continue playing. The 41-year-old Rodriguez was unconditionally released Saturday by Yankees and was batting .200.

Orlando City Draws

Aug 15, 2016 -- 5:24am

Razvan Cocis scored off a set piece late in the second half to give the Chicago Fire a 2-2 draw with Orlando City on Sunday. Brandon Vincent put the ball out front after a quick pass on a corner kick and Cocis got his head on it with enough force that goalkeeper Joe Bendik couldn't keep it out of the net despite getting a hand on it. It was the third goal for Cocis. Prior to that goal in the 78th minute, Chicago (4-11-7), last in the Eastern Conference, was being dominated but that ignited the Fire and they had several strong chances in the closing minutes. Chicago took a 1-0 lead in the 6th minute as John Gossens surprised Bendik with a long-range shot that deflected off the post. Orlando (5-6-12) got the equalizer in the ninth when Cyle Larin reached Kaka's short flip and guided it into the net for his 12th goal. Orlando City, which is tied with D.C. United for the final qualifying spot in the East, gained the lead when Kaka cleaned up Larin's header off the post in the 32nd minute for his fourth goal

Preds Eliminated From Playoffs

Aug 08, 2016 -- 5:40am

The Orlando Predators (12-5) were eliminated from ArenaBowl contention after falling to the Jacksonville Sharks (8-9) in the first round of the postseason in front of 12,171 fans at Amway Center by an overtime score of 69-68. Facing 4th-&-goal from the one, Morris kept it on a run and stretched the ball over the goal line to tie the game, 61-61. The Predators had a chance to win it on the PAT but missed the attempt, sending the game into overtime. Orlando received to start the overtime period and converted its possession into points as Morris scored on a three-yard run to break the tie in favor of the Predators, 68-61. Jacksonville found the end zone moments later as Ross scored for a fourth time on the ground. For a moment, the Predators appeared to have sealed the victory after breaking up Grady’s pass on the two-point conversion. However, Orlando was flagged for pass interference and Ross ran it in from a yard out, sealing the defeat for Orlando. Bernard Morris scored nine total touchdowns on the night, completing 22-of-31 attempts for 277 yards with five touchdowns and one interception while adding 22 yards and four scores on the ground.

Orlando City Loses At Home

Aug 08, 2016 -- 5:37am

Clint Dempsey had his second-career MLS hat trick and the Seattle Sounders beat Orlando City 3-1 on Sunday night to end a three-game winless streak. Dempsey put the Sounders (7-12-3) up 2-1 in the 37th minute, tapping a right footer from the top of the 6-yard box into an open net. Christian Roldan lofted a pass from near midfield to Jordan Morris near the top of the box. Morris, as goalkeeper Joe Bendik charged, dropped a soft pass to Dempsey for the finish. Seb Hines gave Orlando City (5-6-11) a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute. Dempsey hammered home a cross from Tyrone Mears in the 14th to tie it, and capped the scoring - on a goal nearly identical to his second of the game - in the 48th minute. Nicholas Lodeiro, who signed with the Sounders on July 27, and Morris each had two assists. Orlando City had its three-game unbeaten streak snapped.

Pride's Alex Morgan Scores In US Win

Aug 04, 2016 -- 5:40am

Carli Lloyd and Alex Morgan scored a goal in each half as the U.S. women's soccer team defeated New Zealand 2-0 in its debut at the Rio games on Wednesday, getting off to a solid start in its attempt to win a fourth straight Olympic gold medal. Lloyd put the Americans ahead with a header in the ninth minute and Morgan added to the lead with a low shot from inside the area less than a minute into the second half at the Mineirao Stadium in Belo Horizonte. The U.S. dominated from the start to earn the convincing victory and remain unbeaten in 2016. The Americans are trying to become the first team to win the Olympics after succeeding at the World Cup. The Olympic tournament is the first major competition for the U.S. since the retirement of key players such as Abby Wambach and Lauren Holiday following last year's World Cup title in Canada. The revamped Americans next play France on Saturday, again at the Mineirao.

Cerén, 26, originally joined Orlando City in 2014 during its time in the United Soccer League (USL) and was the team’s third-ever MLS signing. During the Lions’ inaugural 2015 MLS campaign, the El Salvador national team captain was selected Orlando City’s Players’ Player of the Year and was voted MLS Latino of the Year. Jul 20, 2016 -- 4:52am

The procedure is on the bone Meeks broke during the second game and caused him to miss most of the last season with the Pistons. Meeks, who passed a physical with the Magic, will provide depth at shooting guard and small forward. He averaged 7.3 points and 1.7 rebounds last season.

Jul 20, 2016 -- 4:50am

Less than a year after parting ways with New York City FC, Kreis was hired as Orlando City SC's second-ever head coach by the club's board of directors, it was announced Tuesday afternoon. “We are very excited that we have got our man. Jason is a progressive thinking and highly ambitious coach, who is very familiar with success in MLS,” Orlando City SC president and founder Phil Rawlins said. “Jason’s playing philosophy is the same attack-minded, possession-oriented style of soccer that we have built our club around. He is a winner who checks all the boxes for us.” Before becoming New York's first ever manager, he compiled an 111-87-69 record in all competitions in seven seasons with Real Salt Lake while leading the club to two MLS Cup appearances, including a championship in 2009, and the 2011 CONCACAF Champions League final appearance. He also has coaching experience on the US national team, joining Jurgen Klinsmann’s staff for a camp earlier this year. As a player, Kreis made 14 United States national team appearances and scored 108 MLS goals in 305 appearances with the Dallas Burn and Real Salt Lake.
